1.  *     (The Prophet) frowned and turned away,     He (Muhammad) frowned and turned away.     سورة عبسى بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ عبس وتولى     He frowned/knit or contracted his brows and he turned away.         AAabasa watawalla
 
2.  *     Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).     When the blind man came to him.     ان جاءه الاعمى     That (E) the blind (man) came to him.         An jaahu al-aAAma
 
3.  *     But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?-     How do you know? He may purify himself.     ومايدريك لعله يزكى     And what makes you know/informs you maybe/perhaps he, he purifies/corrects (himself).         Wamayudreeka laAAallahu yazzakka
 
4.  *     Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?     Or he may take heed, and benefit from the message.     او يذكر فتنفعه الذكرى     Or He mentions/remembers, so the remembrance/reminder benefits him.         Aw yaththakkaru fatanfaAAahu alththikra
 
5.  *     As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient,     As for the rich man.     اما من استغنى     But/as for who availed/sufficed (rejected).         Ammamani istaghna
 
6.  *     To him dost thou attend;     You gave him your attention.     فانت له تصدى     So you are for him paying attention/being concerned with.         Faanta lahu tasadda
 
7.  *     Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding).     Even though you could not guarantee his salvation.     وماعليك الا يزكى     And it (is) not on you that he not purifies/corrects (himself).         WamaAAalayka allayazzakka
 
8.  *     But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly,     The one who came to you eagerly.     واما من جاءك يسعى     And but/as for who came to you striving/hastening.         Waammaman jaaka yasAAa
 
9.  *     And with fear (in his heart),     And is really reverent.     وهو يخشى     And he fears.         Wahuwa yakhsha
 
10.  *     Of him wast thou unmindful.     You ignored him.     فانت عنه تلهى     So you are from him distracted/preoccupied.         Faanta AAanhu talahha
 
11.  *     By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction:     Indeed, this is a reminder.     كلا انها تذكرة     No, but that it truly is a reminder.         Kallainnahatathkiratun
 
12.  *     Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance.     Whoever wills shall take heed.     فمن شاء ذكره     So who wanted/willed remembered/mentioned Him.         Faman shaathakarahu
 
13.  *     (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour,     In honorable scriptures.     في صحف مكرمة     In honoured written pages/sheets (scriptures).         Feesuhufin mukarramatin
 
14.  *     Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy,     Exalted and pure.     مرفوعة مطهرة     Raised, purified.         MarfooAAatin mutahharatin
 
15.  *     (Written) by the hands of scribes-     (Written) by the hands of messengers.     بايدي سفرة     By messengers'/scribes'/writers' hands.         Bi-aydee safaratin
 
16.  *     Honourable and Pious and Just.     Who are honorable and righteous.     كرام بررة     Honoured/generous, righteous/obedient.         Kiramin bararatin
 
17.  *     Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah.     Woe to the human being; he is so unappreciative!     قتل الانسان مااكفره     Killed ('woe') the human/mankind what made him more disbelieving (an expression)?         Qutila al-insanu maakfarahu
 
18.  *     From what stuff hath He created him?     What did He create him from?     من اي شئ خلقه     From what thing He created him?         Min ayyi shay-in khalaqahu
 
19.  *     From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions;     From a tiny drop, He creates him and designs him.     من نطفة خلقه فقدره     From a drop/male's or female's secretion He created him, so He predestined/evaluated/estimated him.         Min nutfatin khalaqahu faqaddarahu
 
20.  *     Then doth He make His path smooth for him;     Then He points out the path for him.     ثم السبيل يسره     Then (to) the road/path He eased him.         Thumma alssabeela yassarahu
 
21.  *     Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave;     Then He puts him to death, and into the grave     ثم اماته فاقبره     Then He made him die, so He caused him to be buried in a grave.         Thumma amatahu faaqbarahu
 
22.  *     Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again).     When He wills, He resurrects him.     ثم اذا شاء انشره     Then when/if He willed/wanted/intended He revived/resurrected him.         Thumma ithashaa ansharahu
 
23.  *     By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him.     He shall uphold His commandments.     كلا لما يقض ماامره     No/but he did not (E) accomplish/execute what He ordered/commanded him.         Kallalammayaqdi maamarahu
 
24.  *     Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it):     Let the human consider his food!     فلينظر الانسان الى طعامه     So the human/mankind should look/watch to his food.         Falyanthuri al-insanu ilataAAamihi
 
25.  *     For that We pour forth water in abundance,     We pour the water generously.     انا صببنا الماء صبا     We (E), We poured/flowed the water pouring/flowing.         Annasababnaalmaasabban
 
26.  *     And We split the earth in fragments,     Then we split the soil open.     ثم شققنا الارض شقا     Then We split/cracked the earth/Planet Earth splitting/cracking.         Thumma shaqaqnaal-arda shaqqan
 
27.  *     And produce therein corn,     We grow in it grains.     فانبتنا فيها حبا     So We sprouted/grew in it seeds/grains.         Faanbatnafeehahabban
 
28.  *     And Grapes and nutritious plants,     Grapes and pasture.     وعنبا وقضبا     And grapes and all trees and vegetation when it regrows for animal consumption i.e.) clover.         WaAAinaban waqadban
 
29.  *     And Olives and Dates,     Olives and palms.     وزيتونا ونخلا     And olives and palm trees.         Wazaytoonan wanakhlan
 
30.  *     And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees,     A variety of orchards.     وحدائق غلبا     And dense/luxurious fenced gardens.         Wahada-iqa ghulban
 
31.  *     And fruits and fodder,-     Fruits and vegetables.     وفاكهة وابا     And fruits and grass/hay/herbs.         Wafakihatan waabban
 
32.  *     For use and convenience to you and your cattle.     To provide life support for you and your animals.     متاعا لكم ولانعامكم     Enjoyment for you and for your camels/livestock.         MataAAan lakum wali-anAAamikum
 
33.  *     At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,-     Then, when the blow comes to pass.     فاذا جاءت الصاخة     So when the Deafening Noise/Resurrection Day came.         Fa-ithajaati alssakhkhatu
 
34.  *     That Day shall a man flee from his own brother,     That is the day when one flees from his brother.     يوم يفر المرء من اخيه     A day/time the human/man escapes/flees from his brother.         Yawma yafirru almaro min akheehi
 
35.  *     And from his mother and his father,     From his mother and father.     وامه وابيه     And his mother, and his father.         Waommihi waabeehi
 
36.  *     And from his wife and his children.     From his spouse and children.     وصاحبته وبنيه     And his wife/companion/friend, and his sons and daughters.         Wasahibatihi wabaneehi
 
37.  *     Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others.     Each one of them, on that day, worries about his own destiny.     لكل امرئ منهم يومئذ شان يغنيه     To every/each human/man from them (on) that day (is) a matter/affair (that) suffices him (worries and keeps him busy).         Likulli imri-in minhum yawma-ithin sha\nun yughneehi
 
38.  *     Some faces that Day will be beaming,     Some faces on that day will be happy.     وجوه يومئذ مسفرة     Faces/fronts (on) that day, lit and shining.         Wujoohun yawma-ithin musfiratun
 
39.  *     Laughing, rejoicing.     Laughing and joyful.     ضاحكة مستبشرة     Laughing, cheerful/rejoiced.         Dahikatun mustabshiratun
 
40.  *     And other faces that Day will be dust-stained,     Other faces, on that day, will be covered with misery.     ووجوه يومئذ عليها غبرة     And faces/fronts (on) that day, on it (is) dust.         Wawujoohun yawma-ithin AAalayhaghabaratun
 
41.  *     Blackness will cover them:     Overwhelmed by remorse.     ترهقها قترة     Smoke/dust burdens/depresses/oppresses it.         Tarhaquhaqataratun
 
42.  *     Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity.     These are the wicked disbelievers.     اولئك هم الكفرة الفجرة     Those, they are the disbelievers, the debauchers/corrupters.458         Ola-ika humu alkafaratu alfajaratu
